Data protection

Data protection is of particular relevance when it comes to Open Access to research data or data sharing. In Switzerland, the legal basis for data protection matters is the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (DSG, SR 235.1). In the case of higher education institutions, the data protection laws of the respective canton apply as a rule. In some fields, for example medicine and psychology, data protection issues that arise from Open Access are of particular importance because sensitive personal data may be involved. Hence, regulations should be created that allow anonymised raw data to be made openly accessible without damaging the interests of the patients in the process.
