New business model for arXiv

The arXiv repository, which provides Open Access to documents from the fields of physics, mathematics, statistics, computer science and related disciplines, is to get a  new business model. To date, 15 of the 20 institutions that make heaviest use of and benefit most from the repository have agreed to support arXiv financially. They include institutions such as CERN, the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (National Centre for Scientific Research, CNRS), and Harvard University. The German institutions DESY (Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron) and the Max Planck Society will also provide financial support to arXiv.

Further information can be found in Ulrich Herb's article Open-Access-Foerderverein fuer arXiv [Open Access support association for arXiv].
