German Bundestag Resoundingly Supports Open Access to Scientific Research
The German Bundestag's Study Commission on the Internet and Digital Society has come out in favour of far-reaching support for the Open Access principle. In the commission's view, Open Access should also be promoted through the joint development of a sustainable Open Access strategy on the part of German research funders and German universities. According to the recommendations for action adopted by the commission, it would be an important step in the right direction if scholarly societies were to publish their own journals in Open Access. Moreover, the commission proposed that a binding right to self-archive be sought for scientific and scholarly publications emanating from ‘teaching or research that is primarily publicly funded’.
