DRIVER - the Digital Repository Infrastructure Vision for European Research- has published its comment on the EU-Commission Green paper Copyright in the Knowledge Economy. The Green Paper aims to set out a number of issues connected with the role of copyright in the "knowledge economy" and intends to launch a consultation on these issues. The DRIVER consortium states in its answer to the question “Should the scientific and research community enter into licensing schemes with publishers in order to increase access to works for teaching or research purposes? Are there examples of successful licensing schemes enabling online use of works for teaching or research purposes?” a number of reasons why the scientific and research community should aim to increase their influence on the development and adoption of alternative licensing schemes.
