Freie Universitaet Berlin and Simon Fraser University to cooperate in the further development of Open Journal Systems (OJS)

The Freie Universitaet Berlin and the Simon Fraser University in Canada have signed a memorandum of agreement on the further development and dissemination of Open Journal Systems (OJS), the world's leading open source software for electronic journals. In so doing, the Freie Universitaet is promoting the spread of Open Access scholarly journals. With over 5,000 installations, OJS is the most frequently used software for the management, refereeing and publishing of electronic scholarly journals. Here you can find information on a proposed project for the improved adaptation of OJS, especially to the needs of German journal editors. The work packages outlined in the article were defined in close consultation with the Public Knowledge Project (PKP) on the basis of feedback from German OJS users.

In order to provide continuous information on the development of OJS, and to support, coordinate and promote the use and further optimisation of OJS in the German-speaking area, the Center for Digital Systems and the PKP have jointly set up an OJS Forum within the framework of the Carpet (Community for Academic Reviewing, Publishing and Editorial Technology) portal.
