Discussion on the future of Open Access within the framework of OA Week

The Zukunftsgespraeche Open Access 2010 [Discussions on the Future of Open Access 2010] will take place in Berlin on 18 and 19 October 2010. On 18 October,  the current status of electronic publishing in scientific and scholarly journals will be discussed with key protagonists, and the potential for development and innovation will be explored. The main focus will be on the discussion of the following questions: What challenges and potential does the future hold for scholarly publishing? What efforts are journal editors, scholarly societies, publishers, and libraries making to position themselves in this process? How are university managers shaping the digital present and future? What do the producers and consumers of scientific and scholarly articles want? Is – or how is – Open Access publishing integrated into scholars' and scientists' everyday working lives? In times of multimedia and collaborative writing, just what is a text? What tools are available? And who picks up the tab for innovation?

In addition, interested journal editors can take part in a workshop on 19 October that will provide an introduction to Open Journal Systems (OJS).

The Zukunftsgespraeche Open Access 2010 are part of Open Access Week, which will take place for the fourth time from 18 to 24 October 2010 and which aims to provide information about Open Access at many different locations throughout the world.
