Launch of the Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB)
April 2012 saw the launch of the Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB) http://www.doabooks.org/doab.
DOAB is built along the same lines as the established and widely used Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), It aims to improve the visibility, discoverability, and impact of OA books. DOAB is a discovery service for peer-reviewed books that have been published under an OA license. DOAB is not only building a directory of OA books that libraries can integrate into their catalogues, but also a directory of OA-friendly publishers. Publishers who are interested in cooperating with DOAB can obtain information here.
DOAB is provided by the OAPEN (Open Access Publishing in European Networks) Foundation, who developed it in close cooperation with SemperTool, who was also responsible for developing and hosting DOAJ. The OAPEN Foundation, which is based at the National Library in the Hague, also hosts the OAPEN Library.
