Literary Studies

German Studies

The central subject gateway for German linguistics and literary studies German Studies on the Net (Germanistik im Netz, GiN), is maintained primarily by Frankfurt University Library (UB Frankfurt). Users can conduct parallel media searches in selected library catalogues, in subject bibliographies and in two steadily growing collections of academically relevant annotated Internet links. Moreover, GiN offers a user-friendly overview of print and e-journals in the field of German Studies and of the contents of current journal issues.

A document server called GiNDok has been under construction since April 2008. The project is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). GiNDok offers scholars worldwide an opportunity to make their publications in all areas of German linguistics and literary studies freely available online.

GiNDok publications are compiled in an online complete catalogue of German Studies and are therefore prominently visible, quickly accessible and fully indexed (bibliographical and content index).

GiNDoK also acts as a mirror server for publications which are made digitally available on the Goethezeit portal for the first time. GiNDoK is open to further collaborations with institutions and research projects.

Thanks to the traffic lights system in the Virtual Library of German Studies (Virtuelle Fachbibliothek Germanistik), users can see at a glance which journals are freely accessible.

Linguistics

In recent years, the prices of some of the journals in the field of linguistics have risen considerably. This has led the community to look into alternative publishing models.

OA is a frequent topic in the leading linguistic mailing list, the LINGUIST List:

Numerous working papers of the Department of Linguistics can be found in the repository of the University of Konstanz Library, KOPS. The Linguistic Society of America's eLanguage platform, which is operated by the University and State Library of the Heinrich Heine University in Dusseldorf, provides a range of OA journal articles.
