German Research Foundation's OA Monographs Programme

German Research Foundation's OA Monographs Programme

The German Research Foundation (DFG) has set up a funding programme for the establishment of sustainable business models for the publication of scholarly OA monographs and monograph series (individual works, collected volumes, dissertations). The funding of these formats will contribute to promoting OA publishing also in those fields in which the main research findings are published in book form.

Publishing scholarly works in Open Access has significant advantages for scientists - as authors and as readers. It enhances the visibility of publications and ensures greater international and inter-disciplinary dissemination of research findings. The added value of providing OA to digital full texts includes comprehensive indexing. Moreover, it facilitates the innovative enhancement of traditional formats with informal communication and collaborative elements, links to other sources, and multimedia content

The invitation to apply for funding under the OA Monographs Programme is addressed to scholars and scientists who - within the framework of pilot projects - develop and implement sustainable and re-usable business models for the publication of monographs in Open Access. These projects may also be conducted in cooperation with scholarly publishers or other similar service providers.

The closing date for applications is 1 March 2013.
