The state of Lower Saxony is providing 3.5 million euros for the new open access publication fund NiedersachsenOPEN. With immediate effect, funds will be made available for freely accessible publications of books, journal articles and conference papers by scientists in Lower Saxony. A network is to be created at the libraries in Lower Saxony, which will provide researchers with new funding options for their publications. In addition, innovative projects that contribute to strengthening the open access transition are to be supported. The funding programme focuses on non-commercial, scholar-led publication services in diamond open access and the development of a diamond open access publication landscape in Lower Saxony. Lower Saxony's Science Minister Falko Mohrs and Heike Andermann, Chair of the Lower Saxony Advisory Board for Library Affairs, gave the go-ahead for the NiedersachsenOPEN Fund on Monday, 11 March.
