New study on the state of Open Access

07.02.2018

A study on the state of Open Access in Germany is being conducted within the framework of the project "Options4OA - Strategic and Operative Options for Action for Scientific Institutions and Professional Societies to Manage the Transformation to Open Access". The project, which is being funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), got underway on 1 January 2018.

As a first step, a qualitative survey of professional societies and scientific institutions will be conducted to determine the state of their OA activities. As a second step, options for action to promote the transformation to OA will be identified on the basis of the survey findings. And finally, measures for the implementation of these options for action will be drawn up.

The objective of the project is to support universities and non-university scientific institutions in the transformation of the subscription model into the OA model and to provide impetus for the further development of the OA strategies of the German federal and state governments.
