Focus group "Scholar-Led"

The focus group Scholar-Led is intended to provide a venue for self-published journals and editor collectives of fee-free publication projects that are independent of major publishers. Inspired by initiatives in other countries (Radical Open Access Collective, ScholarLed etc.), the focus group aims at defining common interests for scholarly-led publication projects operating in German-speaking countries. Its second objective is to explore possible fields of action and forms of interest representation.

The focus group plans to take on other tasks in addition to networking. Conceivable tasks would be, for example, developing a joint manifesto, drafting a declaration of founding with regards to an association of journals to form a collective, initiating joint funding applications or preparing internal working structures on the basis of cooperative models. Concrete objectives will be jointly defined at the first meeting which is planned for early 2021.

The idea of the Scholar-Led focus group builds on networking work in the context of (third-party funded) OA research projects (InnOAccess, Open Gender Platform) and ties in with discussions held at community meetings (Open Access Days) and in the context of the respective institutions.
