New COVID-19 Preprint Viewer makes information quickly available

Help in finding sound information for correct diagnosis and treatment or adaptation of the rules of conduct in public places

The COVID-19 Preprint Viewer facilitates the search for information regarding the increasing number and importance of preprint publications on the current corona pandemic. The Information Centre for Life Sciences of the German National Library of Medicine (ZB MED) has developed the text mining based tool as part of the nfdi4health Task Force COVID-19.

"It offers extended search and filter functions for abstracts, direct links to the corresponding full texts and export functions for retrieved results," explains Ulrike Ostrzinski, press officer of the ZB MED - Information Centre for Life Sciences. "The abstracts are updated daily. In addition, concepts from standardised disease and symptom vocabularies are marked in the abstracts to improve retrieval functionality". In addition, further terminologies have been added to search for transmission and seroprevalence information. Currently, preprints from bioRxiv, medRxiv, ChemRxiv, arXiv and Preprints.org are integrated into the service. According to Ostrzinski, expansions in terms of preprint resources and further terminology-based annotations are planned.
