The Netherlands: Open Access agreement with Elsevier

A comprehensive agreement between the Netherlands and the publisher Elsevier now makes it possible for almost all articles to be published "open access".

The Netherlands reached a comprehensive agreement with the publisher Elsevier on Tuesday 19 May 2020, according to "Forschung & Lehre". It is the world's first national open science partnership, says Elsevier. According to the agreement, the university and research associations of the Netherlands (VSNU, NFU and NWO) and the international company have agreed on a package consisting of an Open Access "Read and Publish" component and Open Science services. The deal will initially run until the end of 2024, and from now on 95 percent of Dutch articles could be published freely accessible through this agreement.
