Networking and Competence Centre on Open Access launched in Brandenburg

Pilot project at Potsdam University of Applied Sciences to serve as model for other federal states in the transformation towards Open Access and Open Science

The new Networking and Competence Centre for Open Access Brandenburg is starting its work. In close cooperation with the Centre for Digital Transformation (ZDT), Brandenburg's OA activities are to be made visible to the public. In addition to that, stakeholders are to be advised and networked. In addition, a publication fund for OA monographs is being set up. The Brandenburg Ministry of Science, Research and Culture (MWFK) funds the position at Potsdam University of Applied Sciences and the publication fund with 300,000 euros annually. The position was developed at Potsdam UAS as part of Brandenburg's Open Access strategy.

The Networking and Competence Centre Open Access Brandenburg is intended as a pilot project that serves as a model for other federal states - the networking aspect also extends beyond the borders of Brandenburg. "With this service, we hope to make a decisive contribution to the ongoing transformation of science towards Open Access and Open Science," says Prof. Dr. jur. Ellen Euler, scientific director of the Networking and Competence Centre Open Access and professor for Open Access, Open Data and Open Science at the FH Potsdam. "Our goal is to make publicly funded knowledge from Brandenburg freely available to the general public."

"Here, university stakeholders can get specific advice on financial, legal or organisational issues related to the transition to OA," says Brandenburg's Science Minister Dr Manja Schüle about the new service. "Our strategy process has attracted attention and acted as a role model beyond the region: that's why Brandenburg has also taken on the coordination of the development of joint OA guidelines issued by the federal and state governments."
