Data protection

Data protection is of interest, especially in the case of Open Access to data, or data sharing,  but only if and when personal data are processed. In Austria, data protection is regulated by the Data Protection Act (DSG) 2000.
In some fields, fore example medicine and psychology, data protection issues related to Open Access are of particular importance. Rules should be devised to enable anonymised raw data to be made openly accessible without damaging the interests of the patients.
