On the initiative of its Main Library, the University of Zurich commissioned Professor Dr Reto M. Hilty and Dr Matthias Seemann to draw up a legal opinion on Open Access. The opinion is entitled "Open Access - Access to scientific scholarly publications in Swiss law". It focuses on legal issues surrounding the operation of repositories, i.e. Internet servers such as ZORA that provide Open Access to scholarly and scientific publications. In particular, it addresses the extent to which works that have already been published by scholarly publishers may be deposited in repositories.

Professor Dr. Hilty is a director at the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property, Competition and Tax Law in Munich and Professor of Intellectual Property Law at the University of Zurich.
